High Pressure Die Casting
Our high pressure die casting services create unique components with smooth surfaces and high dimensional accuracy. This is the favored method for companies who require a large volume of parts but want the greatest cost savings. We work with a variety of industries, from aerospace to automotive, telecommunications, and even industrial applications.
high pressure die casting Capabilities
Our global network of manufacturing facilities means access to a labor pool that is not available anywhere else. With the automation of high-pressure die casting and the production capacity of our international foundries, we help you maintain inventory levels and keep tight production deadlines. By offshoring your high-pressure casting, you can combine excellent manufacturing practices with rates only found overseas. Redstone Manufacturing is a United States company with a globally connected manufacturing value chain, providing you direct access to a variety of metal alloys to the fully assembled part. Our casting foundries are a one-stop-shop for your production needs.
Redstone Manufacturing is headquartered in the United States and offers high pressure die casting through its partners in China, Mexico, India, Taiwan, and Brazil. We find the best foundries that can produce high-quality cast parts that meet any specifications. Our local team helps companies navigate the complexities of working with overseas manufacturers. Additionally, you gain access to foundries with decades of production expertise. Our foundries can handle small prototyping runs to several million parts per year depending on component application and complexity.
TWO HPDC METHODS
The metal alloy used for cast parts will dictate which process is used, and each requires different machinery.
Hot Chamber
Hot chamber casting is used for alloys such as zinc, magnesium, lead, and tin. These metals all share one thing in common. They have low melting temperatures.
For this process, metal is melted in a furnace that is attached to a die casting machine. The metal travels through a gooseneck into a small chamber and is then forced at high pressure into the metal die. This process is fast and can achieve 15-20 cycles per minute.
Highly corrosive metals and metals with high melting points cannot be cast in these machines. Corrosive metals and the excessive heat required to melt metal like copper would degrade the melting pot and plunger system.
Cold Chamber
Cold chamber casting machines are separate from the furnace. High melting point metals are first liquified in a furnace, then labeled into a chamber in the casting machine. Molten metal is then forced into the die at high pressure.
This is a slower process because it takes time to transfer molten metal from an external furnace to the machine.
High-Pressure Die Casting Applications
- Cold chamber casting is used to produce automotive parts such as oil pumps, engine blocks, engine mounts, cross-car beams, powertrain systems, and gearbox casings.
- The aerospace and power generation industry uses this method to create complex cooling systems and turbine blades.
- The oil & gas industry uses HPDC to create safety components and pressure relief systems.
- The marine industry requires highly corrosion-resistant parts such as propellers, pumps, and valves.
- Medical devices such as hospital beds gearboxes, ultrasound machines, and heart monitoring machines.
