Why Redstone

Quality, cost, and a clear fit

Redstone helps hardware teams move from released drawings to repeat production with documented quality, competitive unit costs, and engineering support from the U.S.

  • ISO 9001 certified facilities
  • U.S.-based engineering support
  • Direct manufacturing partner
Quality

Certified castings you can audit

Every casting from our Brazil foundries runs to ISO 9001 with dimensional checks, chemical analysis, and hardness testing. Critical parts add X-ray and ultrasonic inspection, and each shipment ships with the documentation a customer quality audit expects.

  • ISO 9001 certified foundries
  • Dimensional checks, chemical analysis, and hardness testing
  • X-ray and ultrasonic NDT on critical castings
  • Certificate of Conformance with every shipment
Cost

Lower landed cost from one foundry

Sand casting carries low tooling cost, so it is the affordable route for large and medium-volume parts, and investment casting is available when your part needs near-net shape and finer detail. We quote on landed cost, with ocean freight and duties in the number before you see it, and one foundry handles the pour, machining, and finishing.

  • Low tooling cost for sand casting compared with die casting
  • Sand casting and investment casting under one roof
  • Landed cost quoted with ocean freight and duties included
  • No offshore quote desk between you and the foundry
Fit

From quote to production

A five-step process, documented at every handoff

From initial drawings to final delivery, Redstone keeps each stage clear, documented, and aligned with production requirements.

Each handoff is documented. No stage moves forward until drawings, materials, and production requirements are confirmed with the customer.

  1. 01

    Submit Your Drawings

Upload your 3D model or technical drawing. Our engineering team reviews every submission for manufacturability and recommends the best casting method, sand or investment, before quoting.

  2. 02

    Receive a Quotation

A detailed quote covering tooling, materials, casting, machining, lead time, and finish options, with ocean freight and duties factored in. One U.S. point of contact, start to finish.

  3. 03

    Pattern and Tooling

We produce CNC-machined or 3D-printed patterns and core boxes, or investment casting wax tooling, sized to your part, then prove the tooling before any production release.

  4. 04

    Casting Production

Molten metal is poured into sand molds or investment shells under controlled conditions, with in-process checks to hold consistent quality across the run.

  5. 05

    Finishing, Inspection, and Delivery

After shakeout or shell removal, each casting is cleaned, finished, and inspected. We are the importer of record and coordinate ocean freight to your dock with a Certificate of Conformance.

Frequently asked questions

Don’t see your question? Request a quote and our engineering team will answer it.

Why is casting used?

Casting handles metals with high melting temperatures at low cost, and it suits a wide range of part sizes and volumes. Sand casting is an affordable way to produce larger parts without expensive machining, while investment casting suits near-net parts that need finer detail.

How do customs and shipping work from Brazil?

We are the importer of record and manage customs clearance on castings from Brazil, then coordinate ocean freight to your dock. Freight and duties are quoted up front so there are no invoice surprises.

Is sand casting expensive?

Among the common metal casting methods, sand casting is the least expensive for smaller batch runs, and it stays cost effective for large-part production thanks to low tooling cost.

What materials can you cast?

We cast grey iron, ductile iron, stainless steel, alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and brass. Our engineering team confirms the best alloy for your part at the feasibility review.

What are your standard lead times?

Standard production lead time is 4 to 8 weeks, with tooling and first-article timing confirmed at the quote stage. Ocean transit is added and confirmed at the quote stage. Rush programs can be reviewed case by case.

Where are your foundries in Brazil?

Our foundries are anchored in São Paulo. We handle sand casting and investment casting there, manage customs clearance as importer of record, and coordinate ocean freight to your dock.

How does shipping from Brazil to the U.S. work?

We coordinate ocean freight from São Paulo to your destination and manage customs clearance as importer of record, so castings move to your dock without a gap. Transit is confirmed at the quote stage.

How do customs work for Brazil castings?

We manage customs clearance as importer of record on the Brazil-to-U.S. route. Freight and duties are quoted up front so there are no invoice surprises.

When is sand casting the right choice for my part?

Sand casting fits best when your part uses iron, steel, or another alloy and the geometry does not require the tighter tolerances of investment casting or die casting. It offers the lowest tooling cost, accepts almost any alloy, and has no practical part-size limit. The tradeoff is wider as-cast tolerances, so secondary machining is often added on critical features, and investment casting is available when your part needs a finer as-cast finish.

What design mistakes cause porosity in sand castings?

Non-uniform wall thickness is the most common cause. Inconsistent walls create uneven fill and cooling, leading to porosity, sink marks, and warpage. We review wall thickness during the DFM stage, run mold-flow analysis to find likely problem areas, and tune gating, risering, and pouring temperature before the run starts.

What happens if parts fail inspection?

We catch issues before parts ship. If something does fail, the response is structured: a 100% sort of the affected lot, quarantine of nonconforming parts, root cause analysis, and corrective action verified to hold. Redstone guarantees every order and will repair, replace, or refund.
