Quality

Certified castings, fully documented

Every investment casting in Mexico runs to ISO 9001 with dimensional inspection, chemical analysis, hardness testing, and X-ray on critical parts. Each shipment carries the documentation a customer quality audit expects.

  • ISO 9001 certified foundries
  • Dimensional inspection, chemical analysis, and hardness testing
  • X-ray and magnetic particle inspection on critical castings
  • Certificate of Conformance with every shipment
Cost

Lower landed cost with USMCA advantage

Investment casting carries higher tooling and labor cost than sand casting or die casting, but it eliminates secondary machining on complex, intricate parts. Castings from Mexico that meet USMCA rules of origin ship duty-free, and the Section 232 tariff structure favors Mexico-sourced production. Nearshoring the foundry to Monterrey keeps the supply chain inside North America, and we quote on landed cost, with tooling, freight, and duties in the number before you see it.

  • USMCA duty-free shipping on qualifying castings
  • Section 232 tariff advantage over Asia-source programs
  • Higher tooling offset by reduced secondary machining
  • No offshore quote desk between you and the foundry

From quote to production

A five-step process, documented at every handoff

From initial drawings to final delivery, Redstone keeps each stage clear, documented, and aligned with production requirements.

Each handoff is documented. No stage moves forward until drawings, materials, and production requirements are confirmed with the customer.

  1. 01

    Submit Your Drawings

Upload your 3D model or technical drawing. Our engineering team reviews every submission for manufacturability, evaluates alloy selection, and recommends the appropriate investment casting subtype before quoting.

  2. 02

    Receive a Quotation

A detailed quote covering tooling cost, material options, unit pricing by volume tier, lead time, and finish options, with USMCA and freight factored in. One U.S. point of contact, start to finish.

  3. 03

    Wax Pattern and Shell Building

Wax patterns are produced using precision injection tooling or 3D printing, assembled on a tree, coated with ceramic slurry, and built up to the required shell thickness before the wax is melted out.

  4. 04

    Metal Pouring and Solidification

The preheated ceramic shell is filled with molten metal under controlled conditions. After solidification, the shell is broken away and parts are removed from the tree, with in-process checks throughout.

  5. 05

    Finishing, Inspection, and Delivery

Each casting is cleaned, machined if required, and finished to spec, then inspected. We coordinate cross-border freight under USMCA to your dock with a Certificate of Conformance.

Frequently asked questions

Don’t see your question? Request a quote and our engineering team will answer it.

What is investment casting?

Investment casting, also called lost-wax casting, starts with a wax pattern that matches the final part. The pattern is coated in ceramic slurry to build a shell, the wax is melted out, and molten metal is poured into the hollow mold. After solidification, the shell is broken away to release the cast part. The process produces intricate shapes, smooth surfaces, and tight tolerances that are difficult to achieve with other casting methods.

Do parts ship duty-free from Mexico under USMCA?

Castings that meet USMCA rules of origin ship duty-free into the United States. We confirm qualification at the quote stage and manage the certificates of origin as importer of record.

What materials can you investment cast?

We cast stainless steel, alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, grey iron, ductile iron, and copper alloys. Stainless steel suits corrosion-resistant applications; aluminum suits lightweight, high-strength parts; carbon and alloy steels suit high-pressure or wear-resistant uses. Our engineering team confirms the best alloy at the feasibility review.

What are your standard lead times?

Standard production lead time is 4 to 8 weeks, with tooling and first-article timing confirmed at the quote stage. Mexico's proximity to the border shortens transit versus Asia-source programs. Rush programs can be reviewed case by case.

Is there a minimum order?

Investment casting is most cost effective on medium-volume recurring production where tooling cost amortizes across a run. We will tell you at the quote stage whether your volume is a fit and recommend the most cost-effective process for your part.

Why source investment castings from Mexico?

Nearshoring investment casting to Mexico keeps the supply chain inside North America, qualifies most castings for USMCA duty-free treatment, and puts a lost-wax foundry within truck range of the U.S. border. Our foundries in Monterrey make plant tours and design reviews practical, with one U.S. point of contact between you and the foundry.

How fast is shipping from Mexico to the U.S.?

Truck transit from our Monterrey foundries to most U.S. destinations runs 2 to 4 days, far shorter than the multi-week ocean transit from Asia. We manage cross-border freight and customs clearance so castings move to your dock without a gap.

How do customs and USMCA work for Mexico castings?

We manage customs clearance on the Mexico-to-U.S. crossing and provide USMCA certificates of origin where your part qualifies for duty-free treatment. Freight and any remaining duties are quoted up front so there are no invoice surprises.

Why is wall thickness so important in investment casting?

Non-uniform wall sections cause uneven solidification, which leads to porosity, sink marks, and warpage. We review wall uniformity during the DFM stage and use mold-flow analysis to flag high-risk areas before any metal is poured. Where porosity threatens part function, X-ray or leak testing is added to the control plan.

When should I choose investment casting over sand casting or die casting?

The three main variables are material, geometry, and volume. Steel or iron parts with intricate geometry favor investment casting for dimensional accuracy and surface finish. Simpler iron or steel parts at lower volume often fit sand casting better, where tooling cost is lower. Aluminum at high volume typically points to die casting. Our engineering team confirms the best process at the feasibility review.

How does Redstone protect intellectual property?

Working through Redstone adds a confidentiality layer. The facility only sees that Redstone is producing the parts; it does not know the end customer, the application, or the industry. For sensitive projects, we can split production across multiple locations so no single operation holds the complete drawing set.

What happens if parts fail quality checks?

We catch issues before shipment. If a failure occurs, the response follows a structured sequence: a 100% sort of the affected lot, quarantine of nonconforming parts, root cause analysis, an immediate countermeasure, then a permanent corrective action. Redstone guarantees the parts and will repair, replace, or refund.
