  • X-ray and magnetic particle inspection on critical castings
  • Certificate of Conformance with every shipment
Cost

Cost justified by complexity, sourced in-country

Investment casting carries higher tooling and labor cost than sand casting, but it eliminates secondary machining on complex parts and holds tight tolerances across ferrous and non-ferrous alloys. Rajkot's mature investment-casting cluster supplies raw material and tooling locally, which keeps that cost competitive. We quote on landed cost, with tooling, freight, and duties in the number before you see it.

  • Higher tooling offset by reduced secondary machining
  • Local raw material and tooling keep cost down
  • Economical for complex parts requiring excellent surface finish
  • No offshore quote desk between you and the foundry

From quote to production

A five-step process, documented at every handoff

From initial drawings to final delivery, Redstone keeps each stage clear, documented, and aligned with production requirements.

Each handoff is documented. No stage moves forward until drawings, materials, and production requirements are confirmed with the customer.

  1. 01

    Submit Your Drawings

Upload your 3D model or technical drawing. Our engineering team reviews every submission for manufacturability, evaluates alloy selection, and recommends the appropriate investment casting subtype before quoting.

  2. 02

    Receive a Quotation

A detailed quote covering tooling cost, material options, unit pricing by volume tier, lead time, and finish options. One U.S. point of contact, start to finish.

  3. 03

    Wax Pattern and Shell Building

Wax patterns are produced using precision injection tooling or 3D printing, assembled on a tree, coated with ceramic slurry, and built up to the required shell thickness before the wax is melted out.

  4. 04

    Metal Pouring and Solidification

The preheated ceramic shell is filled with molten metal under controlled conditions. After solidification, the shell is broken away and parts are removed from the tree, with in-process checks throughout.

  5. 05

    Finishing, Inspection, and Delivery

Each casting is cleaned, machined if required, and finished to spec, then inspected. We are the importer of record and coordinate freight to your dock with a Certificate of Conformance.

Frequently asked questions

Don’t see your question? Request a quote and our engineering team will answer it.

What is investment casting?

Investment casting, also called lost-wax casting, starts with a wax pattern that matches the final part. The pattern is coated in ceramic slurry to build a shell, the wax is melted out, and molten metal is poured into the hollow mold. After solidification, the shell is broken away to release the cast part. The process produces intricate shapes, smooth surfaces, and tight tolerances that are difficult to achieve with other casting methods.

Where does the raw material and tooling come from?

Our India foundries draw on the established investment-casting cluster around Rajkot for raw alloy and pattern tooling, which keeps tooling lead time and per-unit cost competitive. The best alloy and tooling approach is confirmed at the feasibility review.

What materials can you investment cast?

We cast stainless steel, including austenitic stainless steel grades, alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, grey iron, ductile iron, and copper alloys. Stainless steel suits corrosion-resistant applications; aluminum suits lightweight, high-strength parts; carbon and alloy steels suit high-pressure or wear-resistant uses. Heat treating can be applied to reach target hardness and mechanical properties. Our engineering team confirms the best alloy at the feasibility review.

How does investment casting compare to sand casting and die casting?

Among metal casting methods, investment casting gives the best surface finish and dimensional accuracy on small, complex parts, which reduces or removes secondary machining. Sand casting is cheaper for large parts, and die casting suits high-volume non-ferrous work. Investment casting wins where intricate geometry and tight tolerances matter most.

What quality control and testing do your India foundries perform?

Every program includes dimensional inspection, chemical analysis, and hardness testing, with X-ray and magnetic particle nondestructive testing on critical castings. Production runs to ISO 9001, and each shipment carries a Certificate of Conformance for a customer quality audit.

What are your standard lead times for India production?

Standard production lead time is 4 to 8 weeks from India, with tooling and first-article timing confirmed at the quote stage. Our foundries handle both low and high volume, and rush programs can be reviewed case by case.

Is there a minimum order?

Investment casting is most cost effective on recurring production where tooling cost amortizes across a run, but our India foundries are comfortable with both mid-run and high-volume programs. We will tell you at the quote stage whether your volume is a fit.

How do customs and delivery work?

We are the importer of record and manage customs clearance from India, then coordinate freight to your dock with tracking. Duties and freight are quoted up front, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

What is the most common design mistake in investment casting?

Inconsistent wall thickness causes the majority of casting defects. Non-uniform walls lead to uneven fill and cooling, which produces porosity, sink marks, warpage, and crack propagation. Redstone reviews wall thickness during the DFM stage and runs mold-flow analysis to identify high-porosity areas before production begins.

How does Redstone verify material composition on cast parts?

Alloy composition is verified through spectrometer testing at the facility, independent lab analysis, and material certificates from the mill. For applications where composition is especially critical, destructive testing confirms the material meets print requirements.

What happens if a casting shipment fails inspection?

Redstone contains the lot and quarantines nonconforming inventory, then performs a 100% sort and root cause analysis before any countermeasure. Options include rework, air-freighted replacements, or credit, and inspection gates are updated so the failure mode is caught earlier on the next run.

How does Redstone protect confidential designs at India facilities?

The production facility only sees that Redstone is making the parts, not the end use, the customer, or the industry. For sensitive projects, Redstone can split production across multiple facilities so no single facility receives the full drawing set.
