Questions, answered
Shenzhen production, the details that matter
Is China production still cost-effective with U.S. import duties?
For most volume programs, yes. China remains one of the most cost-effective manufacturing regions even after applicable duties. We assess and quote duties up front at the feasibility review, so the landed cost you compare is the landed cost you pay. The answer depends on the specific program, tariff classification, and volume, and we tell you at the quote stage.
What processes can Redstone run in Shenzhen?
Sand casting, investment casting, die casting in aluminum and zinc, CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, metal injection molding, and plastic injection molding. Secondary machining and finishing run in-line at the certified facilities.
What quality documentation comes with China shipments?
Every shipment includes a Certificate of Conformance and a dimensional inspection report. First-article inspection is standard on every new part. Third-party inspection at origin runs before every shipment. PPAP packages are available on regulated programs. Statistical process control records and material traceability are maintained for the life of the program.
Can Redstone take over an existing China program that has quality problems?
Yes. Send the existing tool drawings, part history, and current supplier documentation. We assess transfer feasibility, run a parallel quote at our Shenzhen certified facility, and project the landed-cost and lead-time impact before you commit. Existing tooling is often re-usable after assessment. The program stays in China and moves to a certified facility with U.S. oversight.
What are the lead times and how does shipping work?
Standard production lead time is 4 to 8 weeks from approved tooling. Ocean freight from China to a U.S. port of entry adds transit time on top, handled by the Redstone logistics team with customs cleared on arrival. The full timeline including ocean freight is quoted at the feasibility review. Redstone is the importer of record.
