Why Redstone

Quality, cost, and a clear fit

Redstone helps hardware teams move from released drawings to repeat production with documented quality, competitive unit costs, and engineering support from the U.S.

  • ISO 9001 certified facilities
  • U.S.-based engineering support
  • Direct manufacturing partner
Quality

Certified process, dimensional inspection included

Aluminum investment castings run under ISO 9001 quality systems. Dimensional reports and material certifications ship with every order. First-article approval is required before production units are released.

  • ISO 9001 certified facilities, same quality process at prototype and production quantity
  • Dimensional inspection report and material certs ship with every order
  • First-article approval required before production units are released
  • Alloy and process confirmed at RFQ, no surprises at first article
Cost

Lightweight parts without the machining overhead

Investment casting delivers aluminum parts closer to net shape than any other casting method, reducing CNC time and material waste. For complex housings, brackets, and connectors, this makes aluminum investment casting the lower total-cost route vs machined billet.

  • Near-net-shape output reduces CNC time and material waste vs machined billet
  • CT5 to CT7 as-cast tolerances minimize secondary operations on most features
  • One importer of record, landed cost includes duties and freight, no surprises
  • Tooling ownership transfers to buyer, no retooling cost at production scale
Fit

When weight matters as much as strength

Aluminum investment casting targets applications where steel or stainless is heavier than needed. The lost-wax process preserves the geometric complexity that die casting handles poorly at low-to-mid volumes, with tooling costs that scale to your production run.

  • Aluminum's strength-to-weight ratio with investment casting's geometric tolerance capability
  • Handles undercuts and internal features that die casting fills poorly at low-to-mid volume
  • Right fit when volumes are too low to amortize die casting tooling
  • Anodizing, chromate, and painted finishes available depending on alloy and application

What we produce

Redstone supports production metal parts across automotive, electronics, industrial equipment, and consumer hardware programs.

Lightweight structural hardware

Lightweight structural hardware

Brackets, mounts, and connectors where weight reduction drives the design and steel is overspecified for the load.

Consumer and industrial housings

Consumer and industrial housings

Enclosures and covers with complex external geometry that die casting handles poorly at volumes below tooling break-even.

Aerospace-adjacent and UAV components

Aerospace-adjacent and UAV components

Parts requiring aluminum's strength-to-weight ratio with investment casting's geometric tolerance capability.

Medical and dental instrumentation

Medical and dental instrumentation

Instrument bodies and handles where sterilizability and low weight are co-requirements.

From quote to production

A five-step process, documented at every handoff

From initial drawings to final delivery, Redstone keeps each stage clear, documented, and aligned with production requirements.

Each handoff is documented. No stage moves forward until drawings, materials, and production requirements are confirmed with the customer.

  1. 01

    Submit drawings and confirm alloy

Share 2D prints or 3D CAD and specify your alloy requirement. The U.S. team confirms aluminum investment casting feasibility and reviews geometry for DFM before tooling is quoted.

  2. 02

    Quote and tooling approval

Receive a landed-cost quote covering wax tooling, casting, finishing, inspection, and freight. Approve tooling design before production begins.

  3. 03

    Wax pattern and ceramic shell

Wax patterns are injected and assembled into trees. Ceramic shell is built to the alloy-specific pour specification.

  4. 04

    Pour and knockout

Molten aluminum is poured under controlled conditions. Shell is knocked out after solidification and parts are cleaned and separated.

  5. 05

    Finishing, inspection, and delivery

Heat treat, anodize, or machine as specified. Dimensional report and material certs ship with parts. The U.S. team manages customs and delivers to dock.

Frequently asked questions

Don’t see your question? Request a quote and our engineering team will answer it.

Does Redstone pour aluminum via investment casting?

Investment casting is most commonly applied to steel and stainless grades. Aluminum investment casting is available in the Redstone network, but it is not a standard catalog offering. Contact the U.S. team with your alloy and geometry requirements before submitting drawings so we can confirm facility fit and availability.

When does aluminum investment casting make sense vs aluminum die casting?

Die casting is the higher-volume, lower-per-part-cost option for aluminum once tooling is justified. Investment casting is the right choice when volumes are too low to amortize die casting tooling, when geometry has undercuts or internal features that die casting cannot fill cleanly, or when the alloy requirement is outside die casting's standard range.

What tolerances can aluminum investment casting hold?

CT5 to CT7 per ISO 8062 as-cast is the baseline. Features requiring tighter tolerances can be machined to plus or minus 0.002 in or better in secondary operations quoted alongside the casting.

What is the minimum order quantity?

500 units or $50,000 per order, whichever is greater.

Can surface treatments like anodizing be included?

Yes. Anodizing, chromate conversion, and painted finishes are available depending on alloy and application. Specify the finish requirement in your RFQ and it will be quoted as part of the landed cost.
