Why Redstone

Quality, cost, and a clear fit

Redstone helps hardware teams move from released drawings to repeat production with documented quality, competitive unit costs, and engineering support from the U.S.

  • ISO 9001 certified facilities
  • U.S.-based engineering support
  • Direct manufacturing partner
Quality

Certified production with full material traceability

Every carbon steel casting ships with material certifications traceable to the heat. Foundries run under ISO 9001 quality systems with an IATF 16949 overlay. SPC, dimensional inspection, and third-party review are standard, not add-ons.

  • Material certs traceable to the heat on every order, no exceptions
  • ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 certified foundries run the same quality process at every volume
  • SPC, dimensional inspection, and third-party review included as standard
  • First-article approval gates every production run before units release
Cost

Steel strength at investment-cast landed cost

Carbon steel investment castings from Redstone certified foundries deliver meaningful savings versus domestic-only sourcing on comparable volumes. Buyers consolidate freight under one importer of record with predictable per-part landed cost from quote to delivery.

  • Lower landed cost versus domestic-only sourcing at comparable volumes
  • One importer of record, with HTS, duties, and customs handled by Redstone
  • Single consolidated freight lane from foundry to dock, no coordination overhead
  • Tooling amortized into per-part pricing, so landed cost is transparent from quote
Fit

Complex geometry in a machinable alloy

Investment casting lets carbon steel parts carry internal passages, undercuts, and thin walls that bar-stock machining cannot reach economically. The U.S. engineering team reviews your drawings for lost-wax DFM before tooling is cut, reducing first-article surprises.

  • Internal passages, undercuts, and thin walls achievable without expensive multi-op machining
  • CT5 to CT7 as-cast tolerances reduce secondary CNC versus sand-cast equivalents
  • U.S. DFM review flags wall-thickness and shrinkage risks before tooling is cut
  • Machinable alloy family, with CNC secondary to plus or minus 0.002 in available alongside the casting quote

What we produce

Redstone supports production metal parts across automotive, electronics, industrial equipment, and consumer hardware programs.

Structural and load-bearing hardware

Structural and load-bearing hardware

Brackets, connectors, and housings where tensile strength is the primary specification driver.

Valves and pump bodies

Valves and pump bodies

Carbon steel valves and pump components where stainless corrosion resistance is not required and cost is a factor.

Agricultural and construction equipment

Agricultural and construction equipment

High-wear components that require strength without the cost premium of alloy steel.

Industrial machinery components

Industrial machinery components

Gears, levers, and linkages with complex geometry that investment casting delivers more economically than machined billet.

From quote to production

A five-step process, documented at every handoff

From initial drawings to final delivery, Redstone keeps each stage clear, documented, and aligned with production requirements.

Each handoff is documented. No stage moves forward until drawings, materials, and production requirements are confirmed with the customer.

  1. 01

    Submit Drawings

Send 2D prints or 3D CAD. The U.S. team reviews geometry for carbon steel investment casting DFM and flags wall-thickness and shrinkage risks before tooling is quoted.

  2. 02

    Quote and Tooling Approval

Receive a landed-cost quote covering wax tooling, casting, heat treat, finishing, inspection, and freight. Approve the tooling design before production begins.

  3. 03

    Wax Pattern and Ceramic Shell

Wax patterns are injected and assembled into trees. The ceramic shell is built up in layers. Process logs are maintained throughout.

  4. 04

    Pour and Knockout

The shell is dewaxed, fired, and filled with molten carbon steel under controlled pour conditions. After solidification, the shell is knocked out and parts are cut and cleaned.

  5. 05

    Heat Treat, Inspection, and Delivery

Post-pour heat treatment is applied to achieve the required mechanical properties. A dimensional report and material certs ship with the parts. The U.S. team handles customs clearance and delivery.

Frequently asked questions

Don’t see your question? Request a quote and our engineering team will answer it.

Why use investment casting instead of sand casting for carbon steel?

Investment casting delivers tighter tolerances (CT5 to CT7 versus CT10 to CT13 for sand) and a finer surface finish as-cast. For smaller parts with complex geometry, investment casting reduces or eliminates secondary machining. Sand casting becomes the better fit for large, simpler parts where tolerances are relaxed.

What carbon steel grades are available?

Redstone foundries pour low-carbon, medium-carbon, and common alloy carbon grades. Specific grade selection is confirmed at RFQ based on your mechanical property and weldability requirements. Contact us with your drawing callouts for a grade recommendation.

Is heat treatment included?

Normalize and anneal are standard post-pour options. Quench-and-temper is available for applications requiring elevated hardness or tensile strength. Heat treatment is quoted alongside the casting.

What is the minimum order quantity?

500 units or $50,000 per order, whichever is greater.

Can I re-source from an existing domestic supplier?

Yes. Redstone handles drawing review, DFM feedback, and first-article qualification against your current print. If your existing part has tolerance callouts that investment casting can meet, the transition is straightforward. Share your drawings and the U.S. team will scope the project.
