Frequently asked questions

Don’t see your question? Request a quote and our engineering team will answer it.

What is the difference between CF8 and CF8M?

CF8 is the cast form of 304 stainless and CF8M is the cast form of 316. CF8M adds molybdenum, which resists chlorides, salt, and acidic media that pit 304. Use CF8 for general corrosion service and CF8M for marine, chemical, and food or sanitary parts. Send your service environment and Redstone confirms the grade at the feasibility review.

Can investment-cast stainless hold pressure?

Yes. Investment casting produces dense, fine-grained stainless that runs pressure-tight for valve and fluid-handling bodies. Castings are verified under hydrostatic or pressure-decay test to your drawing before shipment on programs that call for it.

What is the minimum order quantity?

500 units per cycle for stainless investment casting. $50,000 minimum program value. Volume programs only. Multi-year preferred.

What surface finish and corrosion treatments are available?

A 125 to 250 microinch Ra as-cast surface is typical. Bead blasting, pickling, passivation, and electropolishing are available, with machined sealing faces to drawing. For food and sanitary parts, Redstone confirms the passivation or electropolish spec against your washdown environment at the quoting stage.

Can Redstone re-source an existing stainless casting program from another supplier?

Yes. Send the existing tool drawings, PPAP package, and current supplier quote. Redstone assesses tool transfer feasibility, runs a parallel quote with the certified facilities, and projects landed-cost savings and lead-time impact before you commit. Existing tooling is often re-usable in Redstone equipment.
