From quote to production

A five-step process, documented at every handoff

From initial drawings to final delivery, Redstone keeps each stage clear, documented, and aligned with production requirements.

Each handoff is documented. No stage moves forward until drawings, materials, and production requirements are confirmed with the customer.

  1. 01

    Quoting

Send part files, target grade or application, and annual volume. Same-day technical feasibility review. Full quote within 48 hours, including pattern, freight, and customs where applicable.

  2. 02

    Order placement

Review the quote and production plan. Sign the production agreement. Redstone confirms grade, facility assignment, pattern timeline, and first-article schedule.

  3. 03

    Pattern and first article

Pattern and tooling take 3 to 5 weeks. First-article samples ship to your engineering team for sign-off. PPAP package available on regulated programs.

  4. 04

    Production under SPC

Volume iron casting runs at the assigned IATF 16949 certified foundry. Statistical process control applied from first pour. Lot traceability and material certification maintained end to end.

  5. 05

Frequently asked questions

Don’t see your question? Request a quote and our engineering team will answer it.

Should I use grey iron or ductile iron?

Grey iron for housings, frames, and manifolds where damping, machinability, and low cost at volume matter most. Ductile iron for brackets, gears, and load-bearing parts that carry impact or fatigue and need to deform before they fracture. Send your model and Redstone confirms the grade at the feasibility review.

What grades does Redstone pour?

Grey iron in ASTM A48 Classes 25 through 40. Ductile iron in ASTM A536 grades 65-45-12, 80-55-06, and 100-70-03. Other grades are available on a per-program basis. Send the spec and Redstone confirms grade availability at the quoting stage.

What is the minimum order quantity?

500 units per cycle for cast iron. $50,000 minimum program value. Volume programs only. Multi-year preferred.

Why is cast iron the low-cost option at volume?

Iron melts at a lower energy cost than most alloys, sand molds are inexpensive and reusable in pattern form, and the process scales cleanly to high volume. That keeps cost per pound low while holding the strength and damping the part needs. Redstone confirms the landed cost per piece at the quoting stage.

Can Redstone re-source an existing cast iron program from another supplier?

Yes. Send the existing pattern drawings, PPAP package, and current supplier quote. Redstone assesses pattern transfer feasibility, runs a parallel quote with the certified foundries, and projects landed-cost savings and lead-time impact before you commit. Existing patterns are often re-usable in Redstone equipment.
